A Family with Attachment Issues

If those kids were mine, I'd use a belt

Have you ever thought or said some version of that?

  • What if those kids were pulled from a home because they were covered in bruises because of abuse?
  • What if, when you've gotten loud with them because of their naughty behavior, you see them covering their faces for fear that the next blow is coming?
The next time you see parents with obnoxious kids, remember that there might be more to the story than what a belt can fix. We are one of those families.

When my husband and I reconnected with my two step-paternal grandchildren a few years ago living in foster care, we had thought that we would be visitors in their lives. Their mother had drifted away from us and we thought we had lost contact until, with the help of my step-son, we found them in a foster home. However, we soon discovered that they needed help.

Family Devotion

This site is to share our experiences raising two children with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD),
and to help others find their community of support.

We are devoted to these children but it is hard. Love is very rarely reciprocated and often our faith in the process is tested. Sometimes we question our decision to do this but today we stand with these children in

Defiant Devotion.
